Heinrich Vogeler (1872 - 1942)
Artist and communitarian. Member of the artistic community of Worpswede. Founder of the Barkenhoff commune.
Having been a volunteer for the german army in 1914, he became a pacifist in 1917. Influenced by utopian socialism and anarchism, and also by the english Garden City movement, he later became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and of the Rote Hilfe Deutschland. He emigrated to the Soviet Union in 1931.
