- The admin user 'wiki' can mark any page as read only. Just go to the 'protect' tab (or 'unprotect' tab if already protected). This is an administrative privaledge only. Regular users cannot protect/unprotect anything. What pages should be protected? For now I have left things unprotected while we are setting up the site.
- It's unclear exactly what purpose this wiki is for. Is it a community-oriented version of Wikipedia? If so, then protecting a page should be a rarity. At EcoReality, we use the wiki more like a general purpose shared resource, including recording of decisions, minutes, etc. It then becomes obvious that some things, for instance, a recording of organizational history, should be protected. Minutes are protected after they have been approved at the next meeting; decisions are protected upon consensus agreement, etc. --Jan Steinman 15:57, June 15, 2007 (CDT)
- I think it is intended to be like wikipedia and so protections will be rare. Maybe pages such as: Main_Page, Policy, Copyright... Not sure what else --Tony 16:15, June 15, 2007 (CDT)
- Another possibility to consider are Personal stories - perhaps only on request by their author? For example, I can imagine the former member, who sued my community, editing this story which I shared. I would greatly prefer that should he wish to tell "his side" that he simply author his own personal story and reference mine if he so desired. On the other hand, I'm comfortable, for now, with just leaving my story open and being responsible for editing it myself should issues come up. I propose we just react to questions about "protecting pages" if issues actually do arise, rather than establishing policy - setting ourselves up for routine administrative hand-work seems ill-advised prior to seeing the wiki's actual usage.Craigragland 16:09, June 19, 2007 (CDT)

- Good question. Don't know. I would imagine that inappropriate content is deleted/backed out (by an administrative group - or whoever find it). Admin will need to check the 'recent changes' pages every few days. Admin can then warn the user by email, and ban their IP in extreme cases.
Wed. 27.01.2010. There seems to be an increase of spam appearing in our IC Wiki, especially links inserted into existing texts. I am happy to remove what I find, but think that it would be good if the Admin could take some action to "warn the user by email, and ban their IP in extreme cases" User:ausmisterfrank
I created the page Template:Stub with the thought of tagging those pages requiring more work to be of significant value. This is called a template in wiki-ese. To test this, and to facilitate discussion, I embedded this small page on a few of the brief Category:Notable communitarian pages. The Stub page contains a category tag, which automatically places pages with the Stub embedded into this category (Tagged stub pages).
If we edit the Template:Stub page once, which is then shown on all pages where its embedded. Because of the potential impact of changes to this page, we may wish keep an eye on whether it needs protection. Thoughts? Craigragland 17:03, July 8, 2007 (CDT)
