Peter Kropotkin (1842 - 1921):
Russian anarcho-communist. Author of Mutual Aid and Fields, factories and workshops, two books which have been influential on the development of egalitarian communities.
He lived for some time in Britain where he was one of the founders of the anarchist paper, "Freedom".
In late Victorian England, a small number of communities were started by people influenced by Kropotkin's ideas, including Clousden Hill Communist and Cooperative Colony and Whaggs Commune (both in Northumberland), and Norton Hall Community in Derbyshire.
He wrote the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica contibution about anarchism.
He returned to Russia after the revolution, and died there in 1921. His funeral was the last permitted demonstration by anarchists before the Bolshevik repression.
